Outreach has become an important part of the McLean County Diversity Project.  Each year, we undertake activities that reach beyond our group of Scholars, and many times those efforts impact large groups of citizens.

In the past, the McLean County Diversity Project has reached out to the local community by sponsoring concerts by positive Hip Hop artist Baby Jay and by sponsoring seminars on mental illness at local schools  The Project also produced a variety of plays at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.

Through their individual and group projects, our Scholars also extend the reach of our Project, impacting both inviduals and communities throughout our county.

A significant change to this coming year's curricula is the incorporation of an international outreach component.  Several months ago, four Scholars volunteered to take part in a partnership with Jose and Kim Rojas and the Symbiotic Cultural Exchange Program.   In June, these Scholars will be traveling to Costa Rica, where each will live with a student of his/her age and gender. While in Costa Rica, the students will attend school with their Costa Rican hosts, becoming not only the hosts’ shadows but also experiencing the opportunity of blending into a group of teenagers from a different culture.

In January 2014, the students from Costa Rica traveled to McLean County to stay with the Diversity Project Scholars and their families.
